Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Slice the sub rolls lengthwise, leaving one side attached to create a hinge. Place them open on the prepared baking sheet.
- Layer the salami, pepperoni, ham, and capicola evenly inside the bread.
- Arrange the provolone slices over the meats, then sprinkle the shredded mozzarella generously on top.
- In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Brush the mixture lightly over the tops of the rolls.
- Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the bread is lightly toasted.
- Remove from the oven and allow the subs to cool slightly.
- Top with shredded lettuce, sliced tomato, red onion, banana peppers, and black olives. Drizzle evenly with Italian dressing.
- Slice into serving portions and serve warm.
Variations :
- Add sliced roasted red peppers for extra sweetness and color.
- Swap provolone for smoked provolone for a deeper flavor.
- Include a layer of pesto or tapenade for a gourmet twist.
- Use turkey and mortadella to customize the meat combination.
Tips :
- Choose sturdy bread with a crisp crust to support the generous fillings.
- Do not overdress the subs to prevent the bread from becoming soggy.
- Wrap the baked subs tightly in foil and let them rest for 5 minutes before slicing to help the layers settle and create cleaner cuts.
- For make-ahead convenience, prep the meats and toppings in advance and assemble just before baking.
