The Ultimate Loaded Italian Party Subs

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Slice the sub rolls lengthwise, leaving one side attached to create a hinge. Place them open on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. Layer the salami, pepperoni, ham, and capicola evenly inside the bread.
  4. Arrange the provolone slices over the meats, then sprinkle the shredded mozzarella generously on top.
  5. In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Brush the mixture lightly over the tops of the rolls.
  6. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the bread is lightly toasted.
  7. Remove from the oven and allow the subs to cool slightly.
  8. Top with shredded lettuce, sliced tomato, red onion, banana peppers, and black olives. Drizzle evenly with Italian dressing.
  9. Slice into serving portions and serve warm.

Variations :

  • Add sliced roasted red peppers for extra sweetness and color.
  • Swap provolone for smoked provolone for a deeper flavor.
  • Include a layer of pesto or tapenade for a gourmet twist.
  • Use turkey and mortadella to customize the meat combination.

Tips :

  • Choose sturdy bread with a crisp crust to support the generous fillings.
  • Do not overdress the subs to prevent the bread from becoming soggy.
  • Wrap the baked subs tightly in foil and let them rest for 5 minutes before slicing to help the layers settle and create cleaner cuts.
  • For make-ahead convenience, prep the meats and toppings in advance and assemble just before baking.
