Sweet & Spicy Strawberry Pepper Spread

Instructions:

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the strawberries, bell pepper, jalapeño, sugar, honey, lemon juice, water, and salt.
  2. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring as the fruit softens and releases its juices.
  3. Continue simmering for 15–20 minutes, or until the mixture becomes thick, glossy, and jam-like.
  4. Mash gently with a fork for a smoother consistency, or leave it chunky for more texture.
  5. Allow the spread to cool completely, then transfer it to a jar and refrigerate.

Variations

  • Add a teaspoon of grated ginger for a bright, aromatic lift.
  • Replace half the strawberries with raspberries for a deeper berry flavor.
  • Stir in a pinch of cinnamon for warmth.
  • Use Fresno peppers for a fruitier, medium heat.
  • Add a spoonful of orange zest for a citrusy twist.

Tips

  • Taste the peppers before adding to gauge heat level.
  • If the spread thickens too much after cooling, stir in a splash of warm water.
  • Simmer gently to avoid scorching the sugars.
  • Use fully ripe strawberries for the best color and sweetness.
  • A small splash of balsamic vinegar at the end enhances the richness and boosts the strawberry flavor.
