- Add the meatballs and cook until heated through and lightly browned.
- In a bowl, whisk together all of the sauce ingredients until well combined.
- Pour the sauce over the meatballs and stir gently to coat evenly.
- Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer uncovered for 20 to 25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy and sticky.
- Taste and adjust sweetness or heat as needed.
- Serve warm with toothpicks or over rice.
Variations
- Use grape jelly in place of part of the molasses for a sweeter, classic party-style sauce.
- Add a splash of apple cider vinegar for extra tang.
- Swap bourbon for whiskey or dark rum for a different flavor profile.
- Stir in a little hot sauce for added heat.
Tips
- Simmer uncovered to allow the sauce to thicken properly.
- Stir gently to keep the meatballs intact while coating evenly.
- Transfer to a slow cooker on warm for easy serving during parties.
- Finish with a small splash of bourbon just before serving for extra depth and aroma.
