Jalapeño Popper Patty Melt

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, mix the softened cream cheese with shredded cheddar and set aside.
  2. Season the beef patties with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Cook the patties in a skillet until browned and juicy. Set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, melt a little butter and toast the bread slices until golden.
  5. Spread the cream cheese mixture onto each slice of toasted bread.
  6. Layer caramelized onions and roasted jalapeño slices on the bottom slices.
  7. Add the cooked beef patty on top of the onions and jalapeños.
  8. Drizzle with BBQ sauce for sweet heat.
  9. Place the top piece of toast on each sandwich, press lightly, and warm briefly in the skillet to melt everything together.
  10. Slice and serve hot.

Variations

  • Add a slice of pepper jack or cheddar directly on the patty for extra melt.
  • Swap roasted jalapeños for pickled jalapeños for brighter acidity.
  • Use sourdough or rye bread for a different texture and flavor.
  • Add crispy bacon for extra smokiness and crunch.
  • Spread a thin layer of ranch or chipotle mayo on the bread before assembling.

Tips

  • Roasting jalapeños ahead of time deepens their flavor and softens their heat.
  • Toast the bread slowly over medium heat so it crisps without burning.
  • Let the patty rest briefly before assembling to lock in juices.
  • Press the assembled patty melt lightly in the skillet to help the cheeses melt evenly.
  • For maximum richness, butter both sides of the bread before toasting.
