Instructions:
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sausage rounds and sear until browned on both sides.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the apple cider, brown sugar, maple syrup, Dijon mustard, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- Pour the glaze mixture into the skillet with the browned sausage.
- Simmer for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the glaze thickens and becomes syrupy.
- Add the butter and stir until melted, giving the glaze a silky, glossy finish.
- Transfer the sausage rounds to a serving platter and drizzle any remaining glaze over the top.
- Garnish with thyme or parsley and serve warm.
Variations
- Add a splash of bourbon for deeper holiday warmth.
- Use hot smoked sausage for a sweet-and-spicy version.
- Stir in a spoonful of whole-grain mustard for extra texture.
- Add thin apple slices during the last few minutes for added sweetness and color.
Tips
- Sear the sausage well—color adds tremendous flavor.
- Reduce the glaze longer for a thicker, candy-like coating.
- Keep the dish warm in a slow cooker on low for parties.
- If the glaze thickens too much, thin gently with a splash of cider.
