Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a small bowl, mix the cinnamon and sugar.
- Brush the puff pastry sheet with melted butter, then sprinkle generously with the cinnamon sugar mixture.
- Slice the pastry into strips and twist each strip several times to create spiraled shapes.
- If using cream cheese filling, spread a thin layer over the pastry before slicing and twisting.
- Place the twists on the prepared baking sheet and brush the tops with more melted butter, followed by another sprinkle of cinnamon sugar.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until golden, flaky, and puffed.
- If desired, drizzle with a simple powdered sugar glaze while still warm.
Variations
- Add a pinch of nutmeg or cardamom to the cinnamon sugar for added warmth.
- Use brown sugar instead of granulated sugar for a deeper caramel flavor.
- Fill with chocolate spread or fruit preserves for a completely different twist.
- Top with crushed pecans or walnuts before baking for extra texture.
Tips
- Keep the puff pastry cold until just before using to ensure the best rise.
- Twist each strip tightly to help them maintain shape in the oven.
- For maximum crunch, sprinkle coarse sugar on top before baking.
- Serve warm for the best texture, though they’re delicious at room temperature as well.
