Instructions:
- Bake the French fries according to the package directions until golden and crispy.
- In a skillet, cook the ground beef with the diced onion until browned. Season with salt and pepper, then stir in the ketchup and mustard.
- Spread the cooked fries in a greased 9×13 baking dish to form an even layer.
- Spoon the beef mixture over the fries, then sprinkle with cheddar, mozzarella, and bacon bits if using.
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for about 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot.
Variations
- Add sautéed mushrooms or peppers for extra flavor and texture.
- Use pepper jack cheese for a spicy twist.
- Swap the fries for tater tots for a crispier, heartier base.
- Add a drizzle of barbecue sauce to the beef mixture for a smoky finish.
- Top with shredded lettuce and diced tomatoes after baking for a “loaded burger” feel.
Tips
- Bake the fries until fully crisp—this keeps them from getting soggy under the toppings.
- Drain any excess grease from the beef to keep the dish from becoming overly heavy.
- If using nacho cheese sauce, layer it before adding the shredded cheeses for maximum melt.
- Let the bake rest for a couple of minutes before serving so the layers can settle.
- Finish with Thousand Island dressing just before serving for a classic burger flavor boost.
