Instructions:
- Add the blackberries to a saucepan over medium heat. Cook for about 5 minutes, until the berries begin to burst and release their juices.
- Gently mash the berries with a spoon or potato masher to your desired texture.
- Stir in the sugar, honey, chipotle peppers, adobo sauce, lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, and salt.
- Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to a steady simmer.
- Simmer uncovered for 20 to 25 minutes, stirring often, until thick and jam-like.
- Taste and adjust sweetness or heat if needed.
- Remove from heat and allow the jam to cool slightly; it will continue to thicken as it cools.
- Transfer to a sealed jar and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
Variations
- Substitute raspberries or blueberries for a different fruit profile.
- Add a pinch of cinnamon or smoked paprika for extra warmth.
- Blend the finished jam for a smooth, sauce-like consistency.
- Increase the chipotle for a spicier, more intense heat.
Tips
- Stir frequently during simmering to prevent sticking or scorching.
- For a thicker jam, cook a few minutes longer, keeping in mind it thickens as it cools.
- This jam pairs exceptionally well with grilled chicken, pork chops, shrimp, or cheese boards.
- A small spoonful mixed into softened cream cheese makes an instant appetizer spread.
