Baked Italian Sub Sandwiches

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Slice each sub roll in half lengthwise and spread butter on the inside.
  3. Layer the meats evenly on the bottom half of each roll—salami, pepperoni, and ham.
  4. Top with provolone slices and shredded mozzarella.
  5. Sprinkle with oregano and a bit of black pepper.
  6. Place the sandwiches open-faced on a baking sheet and bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Remove from the oven, drizzle with Italian dressing, and top with shredded lettuce and sliced tomato.
  8. Close the sandwiches, slice if desired, and serve warm.

Variations

  • Add banana peppers or giardiniera for tangy heat.
  • Substitute mortadella or prosciutto for a more classic Italian deli flavor.
  • Spread pesto on the rolls before layering for an herby twist.
  • Add roasted red peppers for sweetness and depth.
  • Use smoked provolone for a bolder cheese profile.

Tips

  • Brush the tops of the rolls with garlic butter before baking for a flavorful, crisp crust.
  • For extra-melty cheese, broil the sandwiches for 1–2 minutes at the end.
  • Toast the rolls lightly before assembling if you prefer a crispier base.
  • Add the lettuce and tomato only after baking to keep them fresh and crisp.
  • Serve with chips, pickles, or a simple Italian salad for a complete meal.
