Amish Cinnamon Bread

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a loaf pan.
  2. Mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. In another bowl, whisk the buttermilk, melted butter, oil, and egg.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients until just mixed—avoid overmixing.
  5. Pour half of the batter into the loaf pan.
  6. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the batter.
  7. Add the remaining batter, then top with the rest of the cinnamon-sugar.
  8. Swirl gently with a knife to create ribbons.
  9. Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  10. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Variations

  • Add a handful of chopped pecans or walnuts to the swirl.
  • Mix in mini chocolate chips for a sweeter loaf.
  • Use brown sugar in the swirl for a deeper caramel flavor.
  • Add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the batter.

Tips

  • Don’t overmix the batter—this keeps the bread light and tender.
  • Let the loaf cool before slicing to maintain clean layers.
  • For a crisp, sugary crust, brush the top with melted butter and sprinkle extra cinnamon sugar right after baking.
  • Store tightly wrapped to keep the bread moist for several days.
